Microsoft bietet in seinem Betriebssystem Windows eine Funktion namens „Smartscreen“ an, die angibt, Benutzer vor schädlichen Anwendungen zu schützen. Tatsächlich tut sie das aber nicht wirklich: stattdessen werden alle Programmstarts auf allen Windows-Rechnern weltweit protokolliert und diese Informationen in einer Datenbank abgelegt. Wird nun auf einem Rechner eine Anwendung gestartet, die weltweit noch nicht auf „vielen“ Rechnern gestartet wurde, so wird vor dieser „unbekannten“ Anwendung gewarnt. Es wird hier also keine tatsächliche Prüfung der Anwendung SUPU vorgenommen, ob diese zum Beispiel Viren, Trojaner oder ähnliches enthält. Stattdessen wird pauschal vor allen Anwendungen, die (noch) keine große Verbreitung haben, gewarnt. Insbesondere für kleine Entwickler, deren Software nicht auf zehntausenden Rechnern installiert ist, stellt dieses Vorgehen natürlich ein Problem dar. Auch manche Hersteller von Antiviren-Software wenden ein ähnliches Verfahren an, um Nutzer vor wenig verbreiteten, aber in der Regel völlig harmlosen Anwendungen zu warnen. Da Supu keine Nutzerbasis von zehntausenden Kunden hat, kann es vorkommen, dass Sie beim Start der Installation eine solche Meldung erhalten. Insbesondere beim Veröffentlichen einer neuen Version wird diese zunächst meist als „unbekannte Anwendung“ eingestuft und dementsprechend von Funktionen wie „Windows Smartscreen“ geblockt. Um das SUPU Install-Setup dennoch zu starten, klicken Sie bei Windows Smartscreen zunächst auf „Weitere Informationen“ und dann auf „Trotzdem ausführen„. Selbstverständlich können Sie vor dem Starten einen „echten“ Virenscan mit Ihrem Antivirenprogramm durchführen, um sich zu versichern, dass mit der Datei alles in Ordnung ist.
